About the Artist

  Artist Headshot Jessica Flores

Hello!  Thanks so much for stopping in to meet me! I began painting in watercolor over 20 years ago and have always been inspired by living, growing, leafy green subjects. Lately what's interesting me as an artist is lively ink and wash illustration, designing patterns and stationery, and, in the fine art realm, creating texture with a batik technique I have perfected over the past decade. The element of surprise this method offers is a constant source of excitement for me. Layering different media on top adds even more possibilities to tell a compelling story, whether it's the sweeping landscape of fields and trees out my kitchen window or the detail of a poplar pod from a tree at my childhood home.

I'm A Hoosier artist at heart and a lifelong resident of rural Indiana, and I hope to share the unique "blueprint" of the Midwest and the concept of "home" in a nostalgic way through my paintings and drawings.

NOT TO BRAG, BUT . . . I have a Bachelor's degree in Studio Art and English from Indiana Wesleyan University, and my work has been represented by galleries and boutiques in Northern Indiana, Chicago, San Francisco and Nashville, TN.

PUBLISHED IN:  Somerset Studio, Haute Handbags, Taproot Magazine and multiple issues of Edible Michiana.

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS:  moonrises, dark chocolate, children's illustration, Muppet humor, Americana music and birdwatching.

GETTING SOCIAL:  I'm most active online on Instagram. This is where I share my daily work and inspiration from my big back yard and my tiny house down a country road. I blog here when I have a great story to tell, a major event or a tip to share. If you're a Facebook junkie, you can find me here. If email is your jam, I release an e-newsletter occasionally containing stories about my work, news about upcoming events and freebies. You can sign up in the subscription tab in the menu. I hope to connect with you soon on one of these channels and help you to live a more artful life!
